Sciatica Treatments
Pain caused by sciatica generally decreases on its own with time but this is not a permanent solution since relapses can occur where the pain could get even more unbearable. To avoid these relapses, sciatica treatment is very important and provides a permanent solution for sciatic problems.
One popular method of sciatica treatment is by surgery either through open back or minimally invasive spinal surgery but both these pose some great risks which many don’t like exposing themselves to. Sciatica treatment by surgery is usually as a last result and instead people prefer other treatment options.
Sciatic Pain - Methods of sciatica treatment
A popular method is through steroid injections which are usually administered at the location from which the pain is emanating usually on the lower spinal area. Steroids help to reduce inflammation on the nerve caused by compression and this could help reduce the pain. This method is however temporary and is normally used to provide relief to the patients so that they can start conditioning or exercising to permanently deal with the sciatica problem.
Another method that is gaining popularity is acupuncture where hair thin needles are inserted into the skin around the pain area. This Chinese pain treatment has been widely accepted in the developed world despite original skepticism and is today a popular method of pain treatment. The length of time the needles stay on the body depends on the intensity of the pain experienced by a particular patient with treatments lasting anywhere from a few minutes to more than an hour.
Drugs to deal with various symptoms caused by the sciatica are also very popular. Top on the list are homeopaths which are usually prescribed according to the cause and symptoms presented by a particular sciatica patient. Every patient receives these drugs in varying concentrations and dosages depending on their particular symptoms and this makes homeopaths more effective in sciatica treatment. What makes them even more popular is the fact that they are largely known to have little or no side effects.
Sciatica treatments work differently for each patient depending on their specific needs. It is however good to try at least all the treatments above before resulting to surgery as a way of dealing with sciatica.
