Lumbar Spinal Stenosis by Robert Gunzburg & Marek Szpalski
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a highly technical book mostly recommended for doctors specializing in the field of spinal stenosis. The book is divided into seven sections each offering some insight into a particular aspect regarding lumbar spinal stenosis and its treatment. These sections are Section I Basics, Section II Classification, Section III Imaging, Section IV Presentation and Pathophysiology, Section V Nonsurgical treatment, Section VI Surgical Treatment Modalities and Section VII Economics and Ethics
The first section of the book is very easy to read offering information that is presented with a high level of clinical relevance and clarity that is unprecedented. As the book progresses on however, it becomes quite heavy and only those who are specialists in the field may be able to understand some of the topics that have been discussed. Those suffering from spinal stenosis may however benefit by using this book as a reference. It contains in depth information on both the surgical and non surgical treatments that are used to deal with spinal stenosis and their effectiveness and shortfalls
All in all, the book is a good summary text that is however most appropriate for spinal surgeon's or researcher's bookshelves. This is because most of the chapters especially those in section VI which focus on fusion and instrumentation can be quite perplexing for those without an expert knowledge base. This being said, sufferers of spinal stenosis who are keen on doing research and gaining some knowledge on the topic may be able to demystify some of the aspects of the condition and the treatment processes by reading this book
